About Artace
Artace is operated by N and R AUCTION GALLERY INCORPORATED. This policy covers the Artace iPhone app, www.artace.net and Artace's painting evaluation service. For support or a privacy, access, correction or deletion request, email screed@rosesantiques.com.
Artace helps you organize and research paintings. You can use the iPhone app's local guest notebook or save guest cases in this browser without creating an account or requesting an AI evaluation. Online account and evaluation features involve the service providers described below.
Your notebook, saved cases and browser reports
In the iPhone app: cases, chosen photographs, painting details, notes, transcriptions and saved evaluation reports are stored in the app's storage on that device. Saving or editing a case does not submit it for evaluation or synchronize it with a server. Each signed-in account has a separate local notebook, and the guest notebook is separate. The app's inscription-reading feature processes the chosen image on the device. Your device's backup settings may cause app data to be included in system backups.
On the website: choosing Save to case file stores the prepared photograph copies, view labels, painting name and details in this browser's IndexedDB database. Guest cases and each signed-in account's cases are kept in separate local notebooks. Saving a case does not submit it for evaluation or upload it to an account server. Photographs are resized and prepared for the website; saved copies may differ from the original files on your computer. Unfinished edits remain in the open page's memory and are lost on reload unless you save them first.
Successful website evaluation reports are saved separately in the browser's local storage under your Artace account identifier, up to the latest 20 reports. A saved report can contain observations derived from the information you submitted; its report entry does not include the uploaded image files. Browser storage may be unavailable, run out of space or be cleared by your browser. Save a separate copy of important original photographs and download reports you want to keep.
The app and website use the same Artace account service, but their notebooks and reports do not synchronize with one another or with other devices. Artace accounts are separate from aiartdetect.com accounts. Avoid using a shared device or browser for private material.
Local research tools
Website cases can include up to 12 prepared photograph copies, painting details, evidence notes, manually recorded sales, specialist opinions and public museum comparison notes. These records stay in the current browser notebook. Archiving keeps the case and photos for later restoration; permanent deletion is available from the Archive.
The optional website inscription reader uses Tesseract.js in your browser. On first use it downloads reader software and Chinese/English language data from jsDelivr, which receives ordinary network request information. The chosen painting image is processed locally and is not uploaded for OCR. Language data may be cached for later use. Draft text remains unsaved until you review it and explicitly append it to your case.
Opening an official museum catalogue link or choosing to load a museum image makes a request to that museum. The website does not attach your case photographs, research notes or Artace account token. Museum images and Artace private library originals are not embedded in case exports. Additional format, subject, brushwork, evidence review, recorded sales and museum notes are not automatically included in AI evaluation requests.
Accounts and security
Clerk provides Artace account registration, verification, password authentication, recovery and session management. Account information includes your username, recovery email address, authentication information and account identifier. Clerk also processes session, device and network information needed to provide and secure authentication. The iPhone app disables Clerk's optional SDK telemetry; this does not disable the account service's authentication and security records.
Signing in changes which local notebook, saved browser cases or report list you can use. It does not upload a local notebook or combine it with the guest notebook. An authenticated evaluation request sends a session token to Artace's service so it can verify access. Artace's evaluation implementation does not include that token or your Clerk account identifier in the content it sends to OpenAI.
Optional AI evaluation
An evaluation is sent only when you choose Evaluate painting after the disclosure of what will be sent. This button is the explicit sending action; there is no separate permission checkbox. Saving or opening a case does not start an evaluation. You can decline evaluation and continue using the local notebook tools.
The evaluation request includes up to four selected photographs, their view labels, and the painting details you supplied: artist claim, period claim, material, dimensions, provenance, questions, notes, inscriptions, seals and condition. The service also receives technical case and photo identifiers, integrity hashes and request information used to match a result to the submitted evidence. Do not include information about yourself or other people that is unnecessary for the painting research.
Artace's service runs on Supabase and uses OpenAI to analyze the selected images and text. The service may add selected images and catalogue information from Artace's private reference library to a comparison. Private reference originals are not made available for customers to browse or download through the report.
When public research is enabled, short artist or artwork-title clues derived from the submission may be sent to OpenAI's web-search service. This separate research request is limited to those clues; it does not include the customer photographs, full painting details, account token or private reference images. Reports may contain links to public sources. Opening those links contacts the external website under its own privacy practices.
The native app's separate museum comparison tool contacts an official museum website only when you choose to open a catalogue page or load a reference image. It does not send your case photograph, notes or Artace account token with that request.
Service records and retention
Artace's evaluation application does not intentionally write customer painting photographs, painting details or generated reports to its application database or files. They are processed for the requested evaluation and returned to the app or browser. This is not a promise that hosting, authentication or AI providers retain no data.
The service keeps limited admission records containing the Artace account identifier, a request lease identifier and admission, expiry and release times. These records enforce usage and concurrency limits. Records become eligible for cleanup when they are at least 24 hours old and their lease has expired. Cleanup runs during a later admission request, so records may remain longer when there is no subsequent request. Account deletion does not immediately purge these admission records. Database backups may retain earlier copies according to the hosting configuration.
The application emits limited failure diagnostics, such as processing stage and error category. Its diagnostic code excludes submitted content, account identifiers, session tokens, URLs and raw error bodies. Supabase and other hosting infrastructure can separately retain request metadata, logs and backups under their service configurations. These can include network and device information, timestamps and service outcomes. Artace uses these records to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service and enforce usage limits.
OpenAI's API documentation states that API content is not used to train its models unless the customer opts in. Its default abuse-monitoring logs may contain submitted content and responses and are generally retained for up to 30 days, with stated legal or safety exceptions. Artace requests store:false for model responses, but this is not a zero-retention guarantee. Other account controls, safety handling and applicable caching behavior may affect retention. See OpenAI's API data controls.
Clerk authentication logs and Supabase operational logs and backups have retention periods that depend on the subscribed plan and configuration. Deletion of an active account or database record does not necessarily immediately erase every historical log or backup copy. See Clerk's logs documentation, Supabase logs and Supabase backups. Artace does not promise that provider processing occurs exclusively in your country.
Deleting information and withdrawing permission
You can stop future evaluation submissions by not choosing Evaluate painting. Cancelling an in-progress request stops waiting for its result where supported; it cannot undo a transfer that already occurred or guarantee that provider processing stops immediately.
In the iPhone app, permanent case deletion removes that case and its stored photographs from the app's active storage. Archiving keeps a case for later restoration. Signing out retains the account's local notebook for a later sign-in.
To delete your Artace account in the iPhone app, use Account → Delete account and confirm. After Clerk confirms the online account deletion, the app deletes that account's notebook on the current device. If local cleanup fails, the app offers a retry. The guest notebook is kept separately. You can also manage or delete your online account through Artace account settings.
Deleting a browser case removes that case's saved details and prepared photograph copies from the current browser. It does not delete your online account or separately saved evaluation reports. Deleting a saved browser report removes its stored report entry; it does not delete the case or online account, and an already open report can remain visible until you leave the page.
Deleting the online account through the website does not erase native notebooks on other devices or cases and reports already stored in a browser. Use the separate Delete actions for saved paintings and saved reports, or clear Artace site data in browser settings to remove stored browser copies. Remove account-specific local copies before deleting the online account if you will need to sign in to access those copies.
Account and case deletion do not erase exports, downloads, recipient copies, system backups or files on other devices. For assistance with account information or service records, contact the address above. Limited records can remain where needed for service security, legal obligations or the applicable provider retention process; contact us for a request concerning those records.
Exports, support and external services
You choose whether to export or share a case or report. An export can include photographs, notes, transcriptions, recorded sources and saved reports. Exported files remain wherever you or a recipient stores them. Review an export before sharing it.
If you email support, your email provider and Artace's support mailbox process your contact details, message and any attachments you choose to send. Send only what is needed to resolve the request. Support correspondence is used to respond, resolve the issue and maintain records of the request; you can ask about access or deletion using the same address.
The current Artace app and website do not contain advertising integrations or code for tracking you across unrelated apps and websites. Necessary account/session storage, local case and report storage, and service security records still operate as described above. Third-party sites reached through links apply their own policies.
